From icebreaker to invitation
The complete Speaking Bug Library Vol. 01 helps you open meetings, workshops, and facilitation sessions meaningfully.
15 thoughtful invitations, real-world examples, reflection questions, and AI prompts in one toolkit.
The toolkit for anyone who wants to open conversations meaningfully.
Your first few minutes often shape more than you'd think.
They shape whether people feel welcome.
Whether they understand why they're here.
Whether they feel safe enough to contribute.
And whether a gathering truly gets going.
Yet surprisingly often, we still reach for a classic icebreaker. Not that it's always wrong - but so much more is possible.
Speaking Bug Library Vol. 01 – This is not an Icebreaker helps you shape the start of a gathering with intention. Not with gimmicks or energizers, but with thoughtful invitations that invite people to be present, to meet one another, and to help give direction to what follows.

Does this sound familiar?
You're preparing a workshop, meeting, or facilitation session.
And each time, you ask yourself the same question:
"How do I help people start well?"
Maybe you reach for an exercise you already know.
Maybe you search online for a new format.
Maybe you sense that a classic icebreaker doesn't quite fit what you're trying to achieve.
Because sometimes you don't want to create energy at all.
Sometimes you want to slow things down.
Sometimes you want to create safety.
Sometimes you want to spark curiosity.
Sometimes you want to help people realize why they're here today.
The first few minutes deserve as much attention as the rest of your gathering.
That's why I made this toolkit.
What's inside?

🗂️ Quick Reference Card
A compact reference card you can keep at hand while preparing, or just before a gathering begins.
No leafing through dozens of pages.
Just an overview that helps you choose, in a matter of seconds, which invitation fits best today.
More than a collection of exercises
This toolkit isn't really about icebreakers.
It's about the question:
"What first experience do I want to give people today?"
Because an opening is never just an opening.
It tells people:
"Here, you can be yourself."
Or:
"Today, we're going to explore something together."
Or:
"Your perspective matters."
A good invitation sets the tone for everything that follows.
Who is this toolkit for?
This toolkit has been created for anyone who facilitates discussions.
It is intended for, amongst others:
facilitators
moderators
trainers
team coaches
managers
teachers
process facilitators
community builders
In short: anyone who brings groups together.
Why I made this toolkit
For years I sat in workshops and meetings where the first question was:
"If you were an ice cream flavor, which one would you be?"
I understood the good intention.
But I also noticed how often exercises like these made little connection to why people had actually come together.
I began to wonder:
What if the first few minutes weren't only light, but also meaningful?
That search eventually led to the Invitation Model.
And today, to this first volume of the Speaking Bug Library.
